With more than a fifteen years of federal tax experience, Mike provides advice on federal tax controversy and procedure matters.
He routinely advises on IRS matters including tax research, statute of limitations, examinations, appeals, penalty abatement, notice responses, audit reconsideration, Listed Transactions, Transactions of Interest, disclosure statements, Private Letter Rulings, and other federal tax issues. He understands IRS procedural issues like obtaining and interpreting account transcripts, completing and submitting power of attorney forms, locating and correcting misapplication of payments, resolving entity status, and navigating the E-Services, Transcripts Delivery System, and Tax Pro Account IRS online practitioner tools.
Mike enjoys teaching and has developed and lead firm trainings on IRS procedure, tax research and writing, and various CPE topics. He has been a speaker at multiple sessions of the annual Minnesota CLE Tax Institute, and a guest lecturer at Wichita State University’s graduate accounting program.
During the COVID-19 pandemic he enjoyed helping business owners navigate the SBA Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan application and loan forgiveness rules, and the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) federal tax credit program.
Mike joined SingerLewak, LLP in 2023 as a director in the Tax Advisory Group. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a JD from the Florida State University College of Law.
